Turon

Turon: The Crispy Filipino Banana Lumpia You’ll Crave Again and Again

What Is Turon?

Turon is a beloved Filipino snack made by wrapping:

Ripe saba bananas (a firm cooking banana)

Often with sweetened jackfruit (langka)

In lumpia wrapper (thin spring roll pastry)

Then frying it until golden and crispy while sugar melts and caramelizes on the outside.

The result — A perfect balance of:

Crispy and crackly on the outside

Soft, sweet, fruity, and warm on the inside

Lightly caramelized with brown sugar

Turon is often enjoyed as:

Merienda (afternoon snack)

Dessert after a Filipino meal

A quick treat from street vendors or neighborhood panaderias

At Valerio’s, we honor that memory with turon that tastes just like home.

Why Choose Turon from Valerio’s Bakeshop

For decades, Valerio’s Bakeshop has been trusted for authentic Filipino breads and desserts—pandesal, ensaymada, mamon, buko pie, and more. Turon fits right into that tradition.

We use traditional Filipino ingredients

We use the classic saba banana, known for holding its shape and flavor when cooked, and sweetened jackfruit when available—just like how it’s made in the Philippines.

Crispy outside, soft and sweet inside

We fry turon until it reaches the perfect golden crispness, while the inside stays warm, tender, and naturally sweet.

Balanced sweetness

The caramelized sugar coating adds just enough sweetness without overpowering the fruit.

Made with consistency and care

With more than 50 years of experience, our bakers know exactly how long to fry, how to wrap, and how to balance flavor and texture.

If you’re craving authentic Filipino turon, Valerio’s brings that panaderia and street-food experience closer to home.

How Turon Is Made (Filipino Banana Lumpia 101)

Making turon might look simple, but great turon requires attention to detail. Here’s the traditional process:
  1. 1

    Prepare the bananas and jackfruit

Peel ripe saba bananas and slice them lengthwise and slice sweetened jackfruit (langka) into strips.
  2. 2

Coat the bananas in brown sugar

Lightly roll or sprinkle the banana slices in brown sugar so they caramelize nicely when fried.
  3. 3

    Wrap in lumpia wrapper

Place one banana slice and a few jackfruit strips on a lumpia wrapper. Fold the sides and roll tightly into a log. Seal the edge with a little water or egg wash.
  4. 4

    Fry until golden and crisp

Heat oil in a pan. Fry the wrapped turon, turning occasionally, until crisp and golden. Many Filipinos add a spoonful of sugar to the oil to create a glassy, caramelized coating.
  5. 5

    Drain and serve warm

Let the turon drain on a rack or paper towel. Serve freshly fried for the best crunch.
